This workshop will be led by Coal analysts from a range of organisations and explore the potential and power of a pledge to limit new coal mine approvals at COP31. We’ll map out how such a pledge could work in diverse regions, covering countries like Australia, South Africa, China, Turkey and Indonesia. We'd also discuss how a pledge like this can build on global methane reduction targets, how it could gain traction through national, subnational and private sector actors, and the impact it could have at COP31.
New climate and energy transition technologies are often on a longer commercialisation journey than other product, and there are more limited avenues for funding these roadmaps. Partnerships with corporations, government and experienced investors are important for the commercialisation process. Entrepreneurs need to understand the pain points and how to navigate them, which will happen via a panel discussion, Q&A with the audience, and then hopefully a workshop to follow with the audience members for individual evaluation of where they are at and what to look out for (to be submitted separately).

As the world faces the growing impacts of climate change, the need for multisectoral collaboration and innovative solutions has never been more critical. In the race to create a sustainable future, we must not only focus on human well-being but also protect the diverse species that share our planet. It's time to reassess our relationship with nature, restore balance in how we use resources, and prioritize the survival of all living beings. While often overlooked, zoos are emerging as vital players in the fight to mitigate climate change. Institutions are increasingly involved in innovative conservation efforts that reach far beyond their gates. From public education campaigns and corporate partnerships to ground-breaking nature-based solutions and accelerator programs, organizations like the Taronga Conservation Society Australia are driving critical behind-the-scenes initiatives. Join us for this discussion panel and go beneath the surface of Taronga’s unique contributions to combating climate change, uncovering the lesser-known strategies that not only protect wildlife but also contribute to ecosystem resilience and community engagement. Plus, enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Taronga's groundbreaking sustainability initiatives, including the world’s largest Coral CryoDiversity Bank, and discover how these efforts are shaping a resilient future for both wildlife and ecosystems.

After feeling powerless about the government’s inaction to climate change given the bushfires and floods in 2020/2021, we trained as facilitators under Climate for Change to teach everyday Australians what they can do about climate change. In April 2022, the urgency of the climate crisis compelled us to shift from hosting conversations about climate change, to carving a space for dedicated action. We'll guide you through writing emails to politicians about issues you care about or from a list of current Australian policies being negotiated in parliament.
