Experts will share actionable strategies for creating authentic urban climate action and showcase success stories from cities transitioning to real sustainability. Attendees will leave with practical tools to drive genuine impact in urban spaces.
Underground spaces are the overlooked frontier in climate action. This session showcases how these spaces can mitigate climate risks, support sustainable mobility, reduce urban heat islands, and provide critical infrastructure for energy and water systems. With insights from global experts and innovative case studies, attendees will learn how to integrate subterranean solutions into urban planning and build resilience against the challenges of a changing climate.
Climate action begins with the smallest steps. This interactive event explores how micro-actions, when amplified, create a ripple effect for systemic change. Through storytelling, science, and humor, All Bits Count demystifies sustainability, inspiring attendees to take achievable actions in their daily lives. Participants will leave empowered with simple, impactful tools to reduce emissions, adapt to climate change, and engage their communities in the climate movement.
The world is facing two systemic existential risk, the solutions to which are closely linked: climate change and societal polarization. There is ample of evidence that resilience and disaster risk reduction is predicated on strong social ties or social cohesion. Strong social bonds in cities, in other words, are essential to preparing for climate futures. At the same time, bonding over the common threat of climate change is a unique opportunity to foster social cohesion and relationships between humans and ecologies.

Many cultures, particularly in Asian communities, have a long-standing tradition of cooking with gas, believing it is essential for achieving authentic flavors in dishes like stir-fries and other Chinese cuisine. However, there are growing concerns about the health and environmental impacts of cooking with gas. Join Willoughby City Council and Asian Australians for Climate Solutions for an enlightening session on "Cooking Chinese Food with Induction," where you’ll explore the benefits of switching from gas to induction cooking. This engaging workshop will be led by practising medical professionals who will discuss the health risks associated with cooking on gas, such as indoor air pollution and safety. Discover how induction cooktops provide a safer and cleaner alternative to gas, offering precise heat control without the open flame, which can be a hazard in the kitchen. We’ll tackle common misconceptions and roadblocks, such as the belief that induction can’t achieve the signature "wok hei" (breath of the flame) needed for the perfect stir-fry. You’ll also gain practical advice on converting your kitchen to induction, from necessary electrical requirements to suitable cookware. The session will feature a live cooking demonstration, followed by a Q&A session, where you can have your questions answered. Participants will enjoy tasting authentic Chinese dishes that are cooked at the session. Mandarin interpretation will be available. Take the step towards healthier, safer, and more sustainable cooking with us!
A panel discussion with an academic discussing the findings of recent research around the sharp rise of global tourism's carbon footprint and an eco certifier who can talk about the rise of businesses seeking certification to validate the steps they are taking to reduce the emissions and waste and a couple of operators who are doing this.

Discover how collaboration and planning can drive sustainable economic development in Renewable Energy Zones.
A community focused event as the first of 4 stages of a full month program of community organising and activation. This is week would focus on the concept of "Alert" informing and inspiring the community to action through a Collective Action framework to mitigate the impacts of climate change at a local scale in Rushcutters Bay, Sydney. It will serve as a foundational phase of community engagement and co-design for Healing Yarranabbe, a precinct scale regenerative urban design leveraging Blue Green Infrastructure to mitigate climate change, while creating a great urban park. This activation seeks to create an interactive space where residents, experts, artists and stakeholders can connect, learn and creatively collaborate. To host the event are renting the Drill Hall in Rushcutters Bay from March 10th through April 4th for four weeks of talks, events and activities to help draw the community to our co-design activities and convene the community around a need for action. Week 1 - "Alert to the need to change" we hope to do in partnership with CAW and Greenhouse. Week 2 - "Heart of change" we hope to do in partnership with Critical Path, a dance and culture collective. Week 3 - "Mind of change" we hope to undertake in partnership with the Sydney Environment Institute, Tooronga Zoo, SIMS and the Botanical Garden along with the Committee for Sydney. Week 4 - "Action for change" we hope to undertake with the Ocean Lovers Festival as part of their city-wide week of actives and action. This is very much a bootstrap initiative, leveraging the exceptional space which has both a large open central room which is 20 metres by 11 metres, and four upstairs rooms with an attractive wrap around balcony. It has tables, chairs suitable for a broad range of events. We have sponsors who are willing to assist in a shared catering arrangement and provision of AV equipment all event partners can share. We are looking for partners who can self-organise an event in the space which aligns to our themes, and have the capacity to book, promote, host and breakdown their own event. It is hoped that we can find 20 such groups for a vibrant and exciting month which will additionally draw a large number of co-design participants to us.

Join the global movement of 2 million participants and be part of the solution!
I want to stage a fun introduction to the ideas Cool the Country explores... with the help of circus friends Beeswax & Bottlecaps. Then we could screen any or all of the short (10 minute) episodes, with questions and answers between stories. Dr Rajendra Singh, the Waterman of India, is the focus of Episode 3... and will be in Brisbane the week before CAW: I hope to get him to Sydney. He could address the audience after his video screens, then I'd discuss with him how we might introduce Indian-style rainwater harvesting structures in Western Australia.

This workshop follows on from a Panel and Q&A session enabling practical evaluation and discussion with investors and climate tech CEOs to enable progress on the commercialisation journey. Speed dating style event which enables one on one interaction and feedback. Discuss pain points, questions on funding or on the commercialisation journey with experienced funders and CEOs
This workshop will be led by Coal analysts from a range of organisations and explore the potential and power of a pledge to limit new coal mine approvals at COP31. We’ll map out how such a pledge could work in diverse regions, covering countries like Australia, South Africa, China, Turkey and Indonesia. We'd also discuss how a pledge like this can build on global methane reduction targets, how it could gain traction through national, subnational and private sector actors, and the impact it could have at COP31.
New climate and energy transition technologies are often on a longer commercialisation journey than other product, and there are more limited avenues for funding these roadmaps. Partnerships with corporations, government and experienced investors are important for the commercialisation process. Entrepreneurs need to understand the pain points and how to navigate them, which will happen via a panel discussion, Q&A with the audience, and then hopefully a workshop to follow with the audience members for individual evaluation of where they are at and what to look out for (to be submitted separately).
